Employment Status: Hourly, Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Temporary

Time-Frame: Target hire date in mid-April and to run through October. Applications to this position will begin to be reviewed in early to mid-March

About Food Connects

Food Connects is a nonprofit based in Brattleboro, VT, working to transform regional food systems through local food distribution, education, and consulting. Founded in 2013, we connect regional farmers with new markets, school chefs with local ingredients, and the next generation with their food. Our Food Hub delivers products from over 150 farms and producers to more than 350 wholesale customers across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Western Massachusetts.

Position Summary

Food Connects is seeking a temporary Warehouse Coordinator to join the Food Hub Operations Department from April through October with a target start date in mid-April. This role supports the efficient and safe flow of regionally sourced products through the warehouse by providing essential operational support to the Warehouse Team. Continuation beyond the initial term may be considered based on organizational needs and candidate performance.

The Food Hub Warehouse Coordinator (FHWC) supports daily warehouse operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant handling of products. This hands-on role helps manage the flow of goods, maintain organization, and support team efficiency. This position will be on their feet most of the day, moving cases around our inventory in various temperature zones.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable, with strong problem-solving and record-keeping skills. 

This is a temporary position expected to run April–October, with continuation contingent on organizational need and performance

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Food Hub Warehouse Coordination

  • Assists with day-to-day warehouse operations in a manner that ensures quality, food safety, and personal safety.

    • Pick, label, sort, and stage product orders for delivery and pickup

    • Load and unload delivery vehicles

    • Receiving and stocking incoming inventory

  • Assists with weekly and quarterly warehouse sanitation

  • Assists with other warehouse duties as needed and assigned

Additional Responsibilities

  • Fill in for other staff when needed. 

  • Occasional paid off-hours meetings and events (with plenty of advance notice).

  • Engage in periodic self-review with supervisor.

Schedule:

Regular schedule of 20 - 30 hours per week within the hours below (exact shift determined by operational needs), with ability/willingness to work later with plenty notice depending on Food Hub and individuals needs:

  • Monday: 7:30AM-12:00PM

  • Tues: 8AM-12:00PM

  • Weds: 7AM-12:00PM 

  • Thurs: 7:30AM-12:00PM

  • Fri: 7AM-12:00PM

Work Conditions: 

  • The position is based in the Food Connects Food Hub facility in Brattleboro, VT.

  • The duties for this position occur in a warehouse environment

  • This role is primarily scheduled during weekday morning hours; occasional evenings or weekends may be required with advance notice.

  • Some federal holidays may require at least part-time work. Adequate advanced notice will be provided.

  • As a hands-on position, this role requires on-site work

Physical Demands - Required: 

  • Ability to repeatedly lift and move products (up to 50 lbs) as needed.

  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and lift trucks in the warehouse, as needed.

  • Ability to be active and on feet for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to work in various weather/temperature conditions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • At least 1 year of experience in warehouse, distribution, farming, manufacturing, or a related field.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to keep detailed records. 

  • Reliable transportation to Brattleboro, VT.

  • Reliable cell phone.

  • Flexibility for working in a fast-paced environment.

  • At least three professional references.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in logistics and/or food distribution. 

  • Knowledge of basic food safety regulations; ServSafe Certification a plus.

  • Experience operating pallet jacks and forklifts. 

  • Familiarity with local produce and regional food systems.

  • Familiarity and alignment with Food Connects’ mission and organizational culture. 

  • Familiarity with the delivery service area and local producers.

Compensation

  • This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

  • Beginning at $20.00 hourly. Negotiable depending on experience.
